Taking Yoga to the Next Level

RECENT LETTER TO OUR SUPPORTERS

Things are changing at an amazing pace.  And the Cuban yoga community is at a real turning point.

Mary Paffard is working with a group of young yogis in Havana and Holguin who are the future of yoga in Cuba. They are artists, musicians, educators and health care professionals with an inspiring commitment to taking yoga in Cuba to the next level. Their leaders are yogis that many of us met and practiced with on our trips with Mary. The Cubans have formed a study group in both cities, are working with Mary and a number of other teachers, and have a clear plan forward.

But they have so many needs — basics that we take for granted — and they need your help.

Here is what your donation can do to support yoga in Cuba:

$1,500 will fund a 5 minute video we can use to educate Americans about yoga in Cuba and how to be part of what is happening there

$500 will pay for one month of the administrative support that we need to initiate and sustain our projects there

$250 will provide transportation to Havana for 7 Holguin yogis to work with visiting yoga teachers from the U.S. or Latin America – we anticipate 3 will visit this year

$250 will buy blankets and straps for the space the study group is using in Havana

$1000 will buy 8 copies of yoga books in Spanish for the study group — they will need 8 copies of 10 books for the  two-year program

Yoga Va Latino is an alliance of American and Cuban yogis which has evolved as a powerful educational exchange and support over the last 18 years. In the past — when it was legal — teachers were brought to U.S., and senior U.S. teachers came to Cuba and developed a rich yoga dialogue.

We are involved in translating materials created by Cuban yogis, supporting yoga blogs, web info, and actual spaces for yoga, and encouraging the practice of yoga in all aspects on the mat and off the mat life at this pivotal time in Cuban history.  Each of us understands personally what this Project can mean for Cuban yoga.
